The 345 km long high-speed line has been connecting the cities of Taipei and Kaoshiung since 2007.

About 300 km are located on bridges. Thirty tunnels were needed. The installation speed is 350 km/h, which results in a travel time between the two cities of 90 min. The train follow-up time is 3 minutes at peak times.

The Lot D3 design comprised a 40 km long section between Hsinchu and Miaoli with 19 two-track tunnels (total length approx. 10 km) with over 140 m2 of breakout cross-section in sometimes very difficult ground conditions.

As part of the development of the construction project, the design lot D3 had to determine the drivage methods and the breakout protection.

Construction was carried out between 1999 and 2005. The high-speed line has been in operation since the beginning of 2007.
